HITIT UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FESTIVAL
As part of the Women in STEM project, aimed at increasing the presence and impact of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, we successfully organized an event in Nallıhan. The event was attended by approximately 150 participants and featured various sessions designed to raise awareness about STEM fields and encourage youngest and young women to pursue careers in these areas.
Event Program and Sessions
Introduction to STEM Fields: The first session of the event focused on introducing the STEM fields. In this session, expert speakers provided detailed information about what science, technology, engineering, and mathematics entail, how one can build a career in these areas, and the future trends in these professions. Additionally, the importance of STEM fields from a societal and economic perspective was emphasized.
Experience Sharing: The second session involved professionals who have achieved success in STEM sharing their personal stories. This session covered the challenges and opportunities of embarking on a STEM career and addressed issues such as gender inequality in the industry. The professionals also offered tips on strategies to follow during one’s career journey. The experience sharing was particularly inspiring and motivating for the young participants.
International Opportunities: The third session served as a guide for participants interested in pursuing education and careers abroad. This session provided information on scholarships, exchange programs, internship opportunities in Europe, and how to build a STEM career internationally. Practical advice was given on how to apply for these opportunities and what steps to take to succeed.
Youthpass Training: The final session focused on the importance of participating in international youth projects and provided information about Youthpass, a certificate that validates such participation. The session explained how the Youthpass certificate can be used in career development, how to obtain it, and the benefits of being involved in international projects. This training aimed to encourage young people to become more active on the international stage.
Importance and Outcomes of the Event
This event was not just an opportunity for young people interested in STEM fields to gain knowledge but also an inspiring experience aimed at motivating them to explore their potential in these areas. Participants gained a broad perspective on the world of STEM and learned how they could advance in these fields. Additionally, they were encouraged to explore international opportunities and were informed about the significance of participating in global youth projects.
The event marked a significant step toward increasing interest in STEM fields among young people and particularly encouraging girls to pursue careers in these areas. As the Women in STEM project, we will continue to guide and support young people in discovering their potential through similar events.
